Souther, a Songwriters Hall of Fame member, also wrote tracks for James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt.

Souther's death was confirmed by an Eagles representative but the cause was not specified.

The music maker was an iconic figure in the 1970s Southern California country-rock scene.

He was set to start a tour with Karla Bonoff next week.

This was revealed by Super Bowl Halftime Show producer Jesse Collins, who spoke to Variety.

"It's a decision that Jay makes," he said. "Since we've been onboard with that show, he's made it every year, and it's been amazing. He's always picked right."

The halftime event, planned by Jay-Z's Roc Nation, is set for Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9.

Kendrick Lamar will headline the show, a decision that left Lil Wayne disappointed over not getting preference for the slot in his hometown.

Fans are speculating the decision was influenced by historical tensions between Jay-Z and Lil Wayne.

"We love Wayne," Collins added. "There's always Vegas odds on who's going to get to perform it. But I think we're going to do an amazing show with Kendrick, and I think everybody’s going to love the halftime show. I know Kendrick is going to work exceptionally hard to deliver an amazing show."

The video endorsement, via Instagram, was made on National Voter Registration Day to stress the importance of voting.

The charges in the indictment date back to 2008, and involve orchestrated 'freak off' sex parties.

Prosecutors, who argued that Combs poses a "serious risk of flight," allege the use of drugs, male prostitutes and violence to control victims.

Authorities seized freak-off supplies like over 1 000 bottles of lubricant as well as narcotics and firearms with their serial numbers scratched off from Combs' homes.

Combs' defense has claimed the record executive's innocence, labeling the charges as baseless.

Multiple victims have reported years of sexual and physical abuse by Combs, with US attorney Damian Williams (pictured) telling a Tuesday press conference that investigations are ongoing.
