People were shocked after Donald Trump showed a gory photo to children at an Easter Monday event.
The U.S. president hosted the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House earlier this week, but a photo of the event has now gained criticism online.
It shows Trump holding a trading card of himself moments after his failed assassination attempt last year.

“As a Brit, I genuinely can’t believe the President of the United States of America is doing s**t like this,” a U.K. user wrote.
“Isn’t this what Easter is about,” another added. “Assassination attempt trading cards?”
A third said: “Forget about chocolate and bunnies, let’s talk about that time somebody tried to shoot me dead. For a father of 5 and grandfather of idk how many, you’d think he’d have some idea of what is child-friendly.”

“Oh the poor kids, as if parents didn’t have to worry about their kids getting exposed to bad things in the world, they have to deal with this clown,” another posted.

Around 30,000 real eggs were on the South Lawn, and there were a number of different stations, including one where children wrote cards to service members.
Children also signed miniature Declarations of Independence and dressed as the Founding Fathers in celebration of the event’s theme, which honored the approaching 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding on July 4, 2026.

YouTube, Amazon and Meta were among the corporate sponsors of the event.
On July 13, 2024, Trump was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when eight shots were fired from a nearby building. The then-former president was shot in his right ear before he took cover.

He was shot and killed at the scene.
Photographs of Trump after the assassination attempt went viral online as the Republican pumped his fist in the air and shouted “fight, fight, fight” while blood ran down his face.
He was escorted to hospital by the Secret Service and released later that day.
A Senate report found last year that security failures and a lack of communication within the Secret Service directly contributed to the attempted assassination.

Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle resigned and took full responsibility for the “security lapse.”
Last Easter, former president Joe Biden also drew criticism for telling transgender Americans they were loved on Transgender Day of Visibility, which happened to coincide with Easter Sunday.
“Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood,” a White House statement said.
Republicans were quick to jump on the statement, with Trump calling for an apology to Christians.
